Most business cards end up in a drawer.

You meet someone great at a conference. A week later the card is in your jacket, you can't remember what you talked about, and the moment to follow up has passed.

From business card to follow-up in four steps.

Scan the card, note where you met, follow up. Teams can also see the profile behind each card.

Scan

Scan a business card into a contact in seconds.

Point your camera at the card. Name, title, company, phone and email are filled in for you to check and save. No typing, no squinting at small print.

The people you meet, in your CRM.

Online leads reach your CRM on their own; the people you meet in person don't. Scan their card, add a note on where you met, and one tap sends them to the CRM your team works in. Someone already there gets your note on their record instead of a duplicate.

Business card scanning and follow-up FAQ

What is uKeep?

uKeep is a business card scanner and contact manager for the people you meet in person. Scan a card and it becomes a contact in seconds, with a note on where you met, so you can find anyone later and follow up by call, email or WhatsApp in one tap. It works on iPhone and Android, and teams can book a demo.

Is my contact data private?

Yes. Your contacts are yours alone. We never sell your data or share it with advertisers, uKeep never reads the contacts already on your phone, and you can delete your account and everything in it at any time.

How is uKeep different from other business card scanners?

Most scanners stop once the card is read. uKeep keeps the relationship: a note on where you met, categories and search to find anyone in seconds, one-tap calls, emails and WhatsApp messages, and everything synced to your account so a new phone already knows everyone you've met.

Can my whole team use uKeep?

Yes. If your sales or events team meets people together, book a demo and we'll walk you through uKeep and set it up around the way your team works.

How soon should you follow up after meeting someone?

Within 24 to 48 hours, while you're both still a face and not just a name. After a conference, one to three days is fine, since people are often still travelling. What matters more than the hour is that you write before the details fade, so capture them the moment you get the card.

What should a follow-up message say?

Keep it short and specific: where you met, one thing you talked about, and anything you promised to send. End with one clear next step, like a call or a coffee, not a pitch. "Great meeting you at Web Summit, Sarah. Here are the pilot numbers I mentioned. Coffee next week?" is enough.

What should I do with business cards after a networking event?

Deal with them the same day. Turn each card into a contact on your phone, add a line about where you met and why it matters, sort out who needs a follow-up first, then recycle the paper. Cards left in a pocket for a week usually turn into names you can't place.

How do you scan a business card into your phone?

Use a business card scanner app: point your camera at the card and it reads the name, title, company, phone numbers, email and website into a contact you can check and save. Google Lens and the iPhone camera can pick up a phone number or email from a card, but they don't keep the card as a contact with your notes. uKeep does both in a few seconds.

What should I write on the back of a business card?

Four things: the date and event, one detail about the person (what they're working on, a shared interest), anything you promised, and the next step. Those few words are what turn a stack of cards into people you can actually follow up with. In uKeep, the same note lives on their contact, so it never gets lost with the card.

How do you remember people you meet at events?

Say their name back when you're introduced, ask one question that's specific to them, and write a short note right after the conversation ends: where you met, what you talked about, what happens next. Memory fades within days, a note doesn't.

What is the best way to organize business cards?

Digitize them, then organize by relationship rather than by alphabet. Groups like Leads, Customers and Network, plus a note on the event where you met, make anyone easy to find later by name, company or job title. Binders and boxes work for a few dozen cards; past that, search wins.

What is a personal CRM?

A personal CRM is a simple way to remember who you know, why they matter and when to reach out again. Unlike a sales CRM, it's built around your own relationships rather than a team pipeline. uKeep is one built for relationships that start in person, beginning with the business card.

How do you stay in touch with professional contacts without being pushy?

Always reach out with a reason: share something useful, congratulate them on news, or follow up on something they told you. Match the rhythm to the relationship, a few times a year for most people, more for active deals. The note you took when you met is usually the best reason to write.

Are business cards still worth using?

Yes. At conferences, trade shows and meetings, a card is still the quickest way to swap details with someone in person. The weak point isn't the card, it's what happens after, which is why scanning cards into your phone the same day matters more than how the card looks.
